Kleinergleich5

German designer Ruben Beckers presented at Imm Cologne 2014, in the D3 Contest’ exhibition, Kleinergleich5, probably the lightest wooden table in the world.

How light can a wooden structure be and what is the minimum weight that ensures it still works?

These two questions steered the development of this table, which was designed as part of the Wood*Transformation projekt led by Professor Jakob Gebert at the Kassel School of Arts and Design.

The answer is Kleinergleich5 (“less than or equal to 5”). While the intricate design ensures the structures load-bearing capacity, it is safe to assume that at just 4.5 kg it is probably the lightest wooden table in the world.
