A brewery in Milan quoting Italian design masters

A4A architects designed the interiors of a brewery in the Barona neighborhood in Milan with materials that are simple but carefully combined: a tribute to Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni.

Birreria Ribalta in Milan – a new project by A4A (Giovanni Rivolta and Nicoletta Savioni) – features a well-calibrated and consistent modulation of materials, textures and colors for a space that glides naturally and continuously from the interior to the garden. Gray stoneware for the existing columns and an unusual boiserie of bronze-colored tiles – with various relief patterns – create an informal and understated environment.

The materials are simple but carefully combined: tables, metal chairs and a very long bench covered with tiles alternate between bronze and anthracite colors, giving a compositional order to the whole room. The Splügen Bräu lamps by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, chosen for the soft lighting of the restaurant, are a polite and cultured quotation of a well-known Castiglioni project, no longer existing: the Splügen Bräu brewery in Milan.
