Meeting of patterns and geometries in an apartment in Ahmedabad

Designed by Malay Doshi, Arihant Bajaj and Tejashree Karande, MD Apartment makes a smart use of the space, providing niches and using different heights.

MD Apartment in Ahmedabad, India, is a designer’s studio made by Malay Doshi, Arihant Bajaj and Tejashree Karande. The previous space was restored demolishing the existing partitions, the original bathroom, kitchen and floor to create an open space where communal areas and private spots are mixed, always maintaining a visual connection and openness. The project also aims to make a smart use of the space by providing niches and distributing rooms on different heights.

The dining table in grey polished marble converges into the relax and reading room, a retreat-like space entirely cladded in wood where people can retire by stepping on a little stair. On the floor, polished concrete is completed with different inlays, like wood, stone, cement tiles and brass, creating a patchwork of materials and combinations of textures. The last part hosts a blue-tone-floor bedroom provided with wardrobe. The apartment creates the feeling of a vernacular cottage in the middle of the city. Arches and shades of indigo and turquoise complete the space.
