Salone 2018: 5 places to see at Porta Venezia

In the heart of Milan’s Art Nouveau neighbourhood, a flâneur spirit joins design with food and beverage.

The Stamberga Library, Porta Venezia Design District, Milan Design Week 2018

In its sixth edition, the Porta Venezia circuit offers events that join design with a food and beverage tour while exploring the neighbourhood and its Art Nouveau architecture.
At Villa Necchi Campiglio, the FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano – celebrates one of the twentieth-century’s greatest sculptors, Arturo Martini, with an itinerary curated by Amedeo Porro, Paolo Baldacci and Nico Stringa. The exhibition focuses on the monumental high-relief Giustizia Corporativa by Martini at the Palazzo di Giustizia in Milan. The show reinterprets the artist’s relationship with the city and is held in memory
of Claudia Gian Ferrari, one of the first scholars who researched this artist. The Galleria del Centro Ceco on Via Morgagni hosts the exhibition “Un secolo di design ceco. Dal Cubismo al XXI secolo”: it celebrates the one hundredth anniversary of the country’s birth by presenting a rereading of its design history, from Alfons Mucha to Škoda Auto. The show is curated by Iva Knobloch – Museum of Decorative Arts of Prague – and Qubus.

The multipurpose venue Stamberga is a bookshop, gallery and a stationery store. For this Milano Design Week it will invite various guests to install their work in the courtyard on Via Melzo 3. On display are Italian design objects from the twentieth century by 1+1 Historical Design Gallery of Andrea Scarabelli, iconic pieces in cane and rush by Bonacina 1889, Japanese silk by Sen factory. Plus, the photography exhibition “Praeludium” by Marco Beretta.
Porta Venezia in Design will also include the third edition of “Doppia Firma, dialoghitra pensiero progettuale e alto artigianato”. The show is an opportunity to give life to a creation of 13 unique pieces, each born from an encounter between a designer and an artisan. Intermingling between these two fields is the focus of “Doppia Firma” at Villa Mozart.
Creazioni di Interni on via Rosolino Pilo launches its Custom Art Design Party. Giampiero Romano, the founder of the legendary workshop, after having created a collection of one-offs for the magazine Toiletpaper, will present his new line of customisable furnishing accessories.
