The robot that climbs stairs is just the beginning: Dreame now wants to govern the home

For years, Dreame has been rather linearly associated with a specific category: high-performance robot vacuum cleaners. Competition was primarily played out on technical grounds – suction power, anti-tangle systems, mechanical extension capabilities toward baseboards and difficult corners – and the Chinese brand had built its reputation on an almost engineering-focused language, made of numbers and incremental improvements.

At the first major European event, organized on the outskirts of Paris, the stakes appear to have changed. Not so much in the specifications – which remain central – but in the strategic framework that accompanies them. The production scale of the event, the narrative construction, and the recurrence of the term “ecosystem” indicate that Dreame no longer intends to be perceived as a mere cleaning specialist, but as a broader player within contemporary domestic infrastructure.

The X60 Pro series, with its 42,000 Pa suction, Dual UltraExtend™ arms capable of reaching up to 18 cm, and the AI OmniSight 3.0 system able to recognize over 320 objects, certainly represents the most advanced evolution of the brand’s robotic line. However, the way it is framed makes it appear less like a final arrival point and more like a single piece within an expanding system.

In this sense, Cyber X – the four-tracked robot capable of climbing stairs – becomes an emblematic object. Its ability to tackle slopes up to 42°, overcome 35-cm obstacles, and clean even while descending is undoubtedly spectacular, but its symbolic function is perhaps even more interesting.

Until today, domestic robotics had an obvious physical limit: stairs represented a break, an interruption in the continuity of automated cleaning. With Cyber X, Dreame seems to want to bridge that gap, reshaping the home as a continuous space. Floors, edges, steps, and, with the new Pano 10 Station, even vertical surfaces are brought back into the same operational logic.

It is an ambitious promise because it implies total coverage of the domestic space; and it is precisely this totality that makes the ambition most exposed to verification over time.

However, if one were to stop at the stair-climbing robot, the most significant shift would be missed. Alongside cleaning devices, ultra-thin floor washers (T Series), an ultra-light vacuum cleaner (Aqua Air), a comprehensive line for pet care, and, above all, FizzFresh™, a smart refrigerator integrating a sparkling water system, modular freshness management, and internal air control, were presented. Here, the perimeter changes radically.

It is no longer a matter of widening a coherent range, but of extending an ecosystem that aims to oversee domestic daily life as a whole: cleaning, preservation, nutrition, pet comfort, and automated maintenance. The robot vacuum is no longer the central product, but rather one of the nodes of a network that tends to expand.

Category extension inevitably entails a test of credibility: can a brand born and raised in robotics transfer the same authority to refrigerators, washing machines, or pet-tech systems? The project’s maturity will also be measured against this consistency.

Another element running through the entire event is the idea of progressively reducing human intervention. Automatic mop changing depending on the room, recognition of clear liquids, multilevel management via app, self-cleaning systems, and high-temperature drying: the user is progressively moved from executor to supervisor.

The home, in the proposed vision, tends to configure itself as a semi-autonomous environment, where comfort derives from delegation. It is a trajectory consistent with the evolution of the smart home, but one that also raises questions that are less technical and more cultural: how much control are we willing to give up in exchange for efficiency? And how truly integrated can a proprietary ecosystem be without becoming closed?

On a formal level, the path is equally significant. While some solutions maintain inevitable resemblances to major global household appliance brands – in proportions, volumes, and certain color choices – it is equally evident that Dreame is building a progressively recognizable language. Transparent bases, Soft Dot Matrix lighting, and the controlled use of glossy surfaces and scenic details suggest a growing attention to the narrative dimension of the product.

The recent transparent air fryer, almost an exhibition object rather than just a kitchen appliance, is an example of this desire to make technology visible and spectacular without renouncing a certain technical elegance.

For a brand that aims to become a system, design cannot be neutral: it must contribute to building identity.

Overall, what emerges from the event is not so much an increase in performance as a change in scale. Dreame seems to want to transcend the definition of cleaning specialist to position itself as an integrated domestic platform, where hardware, software, and services combine to define a unified experience.

The robot that climbs stairs remains the most memorable image. But the transformation underway is less spectacular and more structural: it concerns the construction of a coherent ecosystem, capable of enduring over time and proving that declared ambition can translate into a stable system.

And it is on this continuity – more than on any technical data – that the maturity of the project will be measured.
