Terra Incognita rugs: a journey into mythology

Faberhama created a collection of carpets for Nodus Rug inspired by travel and mythology. A combination of wool and bamboo silk to reflect on cultural boundaries.

The rugs of Terra Incognita by Faberhama are created for Nodus Rug and inspired by journeys through unexplored lands and dreamlike experiences in mythological worlds. In ancient cartography “terra incognita” represented the uninhabited regions, feared beacuse unknown. Based on this, the carpet becomes a symbol of travel and a way to reflect on cultural boundaries and the idea of the different, with a reference to the international situation we are living in.

The carpets, named as fantastic animals, are all hand knotted in Nepal. Made of wool, bamboo silk and wood, Phoenix rug is the 2019 model inspired by the mythological bird that rises from its ashes, representing its plumage and forming a tail with red bows. Grypho (2019) is the meeting of two different mantles: the golden one belonging to the lion mixed with dark wool representing the eagle. Ouroboros and Tulpar rugs (2018) are also part of the collection.
