Milan through my fingers: the city in Anna Sutor’s illustrations

A different city – not only frenetic but also romantic – seen through the line of illustrator Anna Sutor.

Telling a different Milan through architectural drawings, in black and white or with coloured backgrounds. This is the theme of the exhibition “Milan through my fingers”, realized with graphics by Anna Sutor, an illustrator who has collaborated with Rem Koolhaas and Norman Foster. “From her portfolio we have selected together the works that represent Milan, and the city that we had in front of our eyes was amazing,” Milano Icons explain. “The title of the exhibition was born precisely from ‘browsing’ the book of Anna, in addition to the strictly symbolic sense that the drawing, before being expressed, is born between the fingers of the illustrator.”

The result is a careful and personal interpretation of the city and its monuments that highlights the details that often escape the distracted glances of passers-by. From Piazza Duomo to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, from skyscrapers to Liberty-style buildings. Also portraying some very typical places, such as the historic pastry shop Marchesi. Everything passes through the pencil of Anna Sutor, trained as an architect, who is used to observe the city differently: details, atmospheres, suggestions are translated into illustrations by her characteristic sign defined and sinuous. A visual tale to reveal a different city: not only frenetic but, at times, also romantic.
