Milan. A contemporary and exotic 20th century apartment

Andrea Del Pedro Pera and Gian Paolo Venier reinterpret the atmospheres of the early ’900 of this 150sqm Milanese apartment.

The apartment is designed for a young professional, the intervention redraws the original layout – which consisted of three bedrooms, a small living room and a study – and gives rise to a clear division between living area and sleeping area. The new rooms - bedroom, large living room and study / guest bedroom – open to current lifestyles. Moreover, thanks to an equipped disengagement, the bedroom takes on a private dimension, enriched by the en-suite bathroom. The recovery and restoration of vintage materials – the parquet floors of the living area – are accompanied by a research into contemporary signings and windows, in keeping with the original character of the building.

The Venetian terrazzo floor, which runs from the entrance to the kitchen, has brass inserts, also evoked in the furnishings and accessories of the two bathrooms, becoming one of the aesthetic traits of the house. The use of built-in wardrobes, made to measure, allows to obtain large hidden walls with decorative wooden vertical slats, which leave the scene to furniture and objects with a more personal character. Inspired by the curious and cosmopolitan spirit that characterized the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe, interior design presents a stratification of objects ranging from deco vases to woven Indonesian straw chairs, to Italian and Chinese handicrafts, passing through vintage lamps 40s and sideboard and 60s rosewood cabinet. A cultural and temporal melting pot, enriched with precious fabrics and furniture and customized accessories.
