A design competition in memory of Vico Magistretti is to be launched on April 1. Promoted by De Padova, the legendary design brand that was linked to the maestro for many years, young designs from all over the world are invited to develop a project that reflects the spirit of the teaching of Magistretti who often maintained that, “simplicity is an essential quality of good design. The designer should be able to explain over the phone how his project is made and why it is made in that way – so simple as to make it a unique object”.

The brief will be published on 1 April 2007. Deadline for presenting designs is 30 June 2007. An international jury featuring names from the world of culture, architecture, design and fashion will be called upon to select the three best designs that will receive their prizes in September 2007 at the De Padova showroom in Milan.
