In mid September, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris reopened after six years of oblivion. The glorious galleries of the Louvre, which have undergone an ambitious facelift involving four teams of architects – including Bruno Moinard and Oscar Tusquets for the historic collections and Sylvain Dubuisson for the contemporary period – are to become the home of an impressive museum for decorative arts.

The centre will include not only the Musée des Arts Décoratifs but also the Musée de la Mode et du Textile, the Musée de la Publicité, designed by Jean Nouvel, and the Musée Nissim de Camondo, as well as the Galerie des Bijoux, a library and a school.

It is interesting that the museum of decorative arts dedicates its inaugural exhibition (“Danese, éditeur de design à Milan”, from 25 October) to design as “the central issue for the creation of objects in the 20th century”.
