Those in fashion and design will already know that A-POC stands for “A Piece of Cloth” and that it is the clothing line designed by the brilliant Miyake-Fujiwara team. The clothes are the result of a patented process which uses binary coding and a computer aided textile machine to produce a long tubular piece of material which encapsulates an entire wardrobe.
The magic of Miyake is all there – an apparently sophisticated technology to achieve an undeniably simple result. “The final form of clothing design is determined by the way the body moves” states Miyake, “Unlike architecture and furniture, clothing design cannot be accomplished without the wearer’s participation”.
The intention behind the exhibition is to underline the characteristic of continuous evolution of this unique clothing line which since its conception in 1997 has already changed around ten times. The installation, designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, shows A-POC in progress, versions 1 to 10, with a look also into the future – which looks like it holds endless surprising possibilities.
