Ettore Sottsass. 20 large silver pieces

“In today’s world an important unit of measure for ‘quality’ is the dimension of that which one does”… “into this notion of dimension have fallen my gallery owner friends”. This is the premise of Ettore Sottsass who in an exhibition in Milan brings together twenty large silver pieces specially designed by him for gallery owner friends Paolo Curtin and Annamaria Gambuzzi. Like all his designs they are characterised by an assembly of simple geometric figures (cubes, cylinders, spheres) and an elementary use of perspective.

Large silver pieces which as Sottsass worked on them gradually become the support or base for a flower, or two, or for three oranges, in an almost oriental way. “In the East – maintains Sottsass – they are content even today to be ecstatic in front of just a single flower, with maybe a branch or some leaves, sitting on a nice base”.
