Gio Ponti - A World

"Gio Ponti – a World", in other words a homage to one of the most prominent figures of Italian architecture and design organised at the Design Museum in London. It also provides the opportunity to present Ponti to the British public, emphasising – shortly after the Milan Furniture Fair and coinciding with the Victoria & Albert Museum exhibition "Milan in a Van" showing the best from the Fair – the continued importance of Milan in terms of contemporary design.

The exhibition aims to do justice to the multi-faceted figure of Ponti: painter, poet, writer and teacher as well as architect, designer and founder of Domus. It evokes his love of colour and decoration as well as his sense of humour with the presentation of a selection of projects which range from the magical Villa Planchart in Caracas to the Pavoni expresso machine, synonymous with La Dolce Vita.
