Ibiza. A mural of thermal blankets reminds migrants at sea

The street artist SpY created a “sun” of golden thermal blankets to raise awareness of the Mediterranean migration crisis.

For Bloop, the international festival of proactive art held every year in Ibiza, the street artist from Madrid SpY once again intervened on the environment to launch a political and social message. "Sun" is a 15 meter diameter circle made with thermal emergency blankets and affixed on the facade of a residential building.

Beyond its shiny effect and its light and temperature tricks on the main street of the already feverish island, it is the material that bears the most important message: the emergency of migrants at sea.

The sun and light motifs imply other symbols: the circle as origin and destination, the lighthouse that welcomes and indicates the way, the sun that both gives and takes away life. All according to the figure of Ibiza: flashy and ephemeral in form, dense and concrete in substance.
