The installation by the Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is titled “Sous le ciel” (under the sky). Raising from the ground up to the seventh sky, this is what the Argentine artist suggests: he knows the city of Paris where he used to live and the importance of its changing sky. The installation involves different rooms in the department store. Light and cotton shapes hang in the windows. Clouds up to the top of the roof are reproduced in the interior spaces.
The well-known steps of the Paris department store immediately transform and intertwine, to lead customers into a space between dream and reality. This is the first time that the Argentine artist exhibited in a shopping center, and here at Bon Marché he recognizes the status of a cultural place: “It is a place of culture. A place that awakens our imagination. You can go for a walk without buying anything, just getting laid and dreaming. It refers to the history of the city and its architecture, to the culture of the country”. Leandro Erlich plays with mirrors, double bottoms, optical illusions to create unusual architectural proposals that change our perception of reality. His installations on a human scale offer viewers the opportunity to participate in unexpected experiences, in the form of games. Likewise here at Bon marché.
