Belgian scoop: basket street court revamped with colour

Armed with paintbrushes and around 137 litres of water colours, muralist Katrien Vanderlinden managed to transform an old and dull basket street court into a fully fledged piece of art. Street art has already proven to be capable to revive whole city districts or quarters with minimal interventions like murals, stencils or posters. This creative regeneration has now found its way to sport courts and playing fields. Inspired by the online phenomenon ‘Hypecourts’ the city council of Aalst (Belgium) found a project that deploys both youth, sport and culture.

With much enthusiasm, muralist Katrien Vanderlinden accepted the assignment and unrolled a fresh and modern design. In between the existing lines of the playfield she introduced the simple geometric forms  of toy bricks in different sizes and colour. An old box of toy bricks was the catalyst too which Katrien added a touch of the Memphis art style. Hence she created inspiring new playfields in the existing  basket court.
