Artissima: Arte giovane

Artissima (the art fair held in Turin from 7 to 9 November), continues to focus on young collectors and artists of the future.

Last year, the new director Andrea Bellini launched a project that uses regional funding for contemporary art to purchase works by young artists at the fair and establish a collection. This year’s new initiative is the competition “Italian Wave” aimed at young artists, all under 35 and not yet represented by a gallery. It has led to the selection of seven up-and-coming artists (out of 1,481 participants), who will be featured in a special space within the fair. They include, Dafne Boggeri, chosen for her approach to sexual ambiguity and interaction with street art; Rossana Buremi and her kitsch experiments; Patrizio Di Massimo, born in 1983, the youngest of the artists selected and one of the few to use archive and historical research as a language; Francesca Grilli, whose work is linked to intimate themes and personal narrative; Jacopo Miliani, who makes black-and-white collages that mix fun with mystery; Alessandro Sciaraffa, for the sophisticated relationship established with space for sculptures; and finally the Florentine collective Studio ++ who mix an architectural background with artistic sensibility.
