Robert Crumb. A Chronicle of Modern Times
Bored of just being defined the best loved cartoonist in America, Robert Crumb recently announced to British newspaper The Guardian that in future he will be aspiring for more. After forty years under the label of “politically uncorrect”, the father of the underground cartoon “made in the USA” is anything but ready to hang his hat up. His new creations will try the patience of conformists and challenge the limits of the imagination of a new generation of readers.
The Whitechapel gallery in London is dedicating a major exhibition to the sixty-two-year-old artist and the irreverent “heroes” conceived by his satirical and sacrilegious imagination. A homage to the distinguished career of one of the few icons of sixties counterculture who has succeeded, even without wanting to, to enter the world of contemporary art. E.S.
