Artists' Favourites: Act II

What are the artists’ favourite works of art, videos and films? The ICA in London is offering us a chance to find out as it has asked forty or so contemporary artists to exhibit their ‘favourite’ works, created in a period between 1947 (the year the British gallery was founded) and 2004.

The exhibition is divided into two acts, of which this is the second, and offers an opportunity to discover the mechanisms underlying the opinions – of critics, curators, artists, journalists and the public – on art. Why, for instance, does Liam Gillick appreciate “Blown Away Under Certain Circumstances” (1986) by Lawrence Weiner? Or why could Olafur Eliasson not live without the works of Fred Sandback. Each one has to explain the reason for their choice in a brief statement. E.S.
