Wenders. Pictures from the Surface of the Earth

His films are sequences of images that move across allegorical cities: Lisbon, clusters of white boxes climbing up hillsides; Los Angeles, a uniform extension of multicoloured lights; Berlin, the emergence of monumental symbols. German director Wim Wenders, born in Dusseldorf in 1945, makes use however of the camera when preparing his scenes. This exhibition aims to look at this “preparatory study”, revealing details and unexpected aspects. His images in large format (measuring up to more than 4.5 metres) profess a debt to Edward Hopper: “in his paintings you perceive that every thing is just round the corner. The prelude to action is there”. L.B.
