Curated by Gianni Di Capua for the Benetton Foundation, the ‘voices’ referred to in the exhibtion’s title recall the relationships, anecdotes, and events that involved Fernanda Pivano with the major protagonists of 20th century Italian and American literature. Writers, poets, but above all friends have recorded on Pivano’s tapes memories, messages and appreciations of each others’ work. These audiovisual documents reconstruct, together with unedited photographs of Ettore Sottsass a tale of times gone by such as when Ernest Hemingway phoned Pivano from Cuba in October 1957.

The exhibition accompanies two books published by Editoriale Domus for the Fondazione Benetton Centro Studi e Ricerche: Ettore Sottsass jr: Facce /Faces. Fotografie dal Fondo Sottsass nella Biblioteca Riccardo e Fernanda Pivano, edited by Stefano Casciani, and the guide Fernanda Pivano: Voci/Voices, edited by Gianni Di Capua. L.B.
