A glimpse of the Bauhaus
Architecture, theatre and reportage. Seventy years on, an exhibition presents images from the archive at the Bauhaus in Dessau: “Bauhaus Fotografie” – which forms part of the event “Spilimbergo Fotografia” – is curated by Lutz Schöbe and Marie Neumüllers and on in the 7th-8th century Villa Savorgnan in Lestans. An indirect way to access the world of one of the principal movements of art and design in Germany: much of the work from which once realised we have only known only in terms of photographic reproductions in as much as many of the originals have been lost.
The exhibition is divided into two main parts – one is a collection of photographs – almost exclusively vintage prints – which range from professional shots of architecture and objects by Lucia Moholy and Erich Consemüller to shots of the stage by Lux Feiniger. They feature around 160 works of art by Josef Albers, Moses Bahelfer, Irena Blühova, Franz Eherlich, Irene Hoffmann, Fritz Lafeldt, Lucia Moholy, Walter Peterhans, Herbert Schürmann and other unknown artists.
Alongside this collection is another smaller one of around 40 photographs taken by contemporary photographers, including Jürgen Hohmut, Stefan Kiess, Klaus Kienhold, Kelly Kellerhof, Uwe Jacobshagen, Frank Heinrich Müller and Roland Zshuppe.
