Turner Prize 2001 goes to Martin Creed

The prize well-known to English artists awarded to Martin Creed, the artist and musician who recently showed in Palermo, stirred up controversy.
Creed’s installation was a room with lights which came off and on, in which the artist wanted to represent the mystical and existential passage between life and death. Protests immediately occurred under the Tate Britain by the 'Stuckist' group of artists who support a return to traditional art.
