The second show at Goethe House in Rome bringing together artworks from the Goethian collection and works of contemporary art. After designer Konstantin Grcic, it's now Katharina Sieverding, the artist who since the 1970s has dedicated her work to fundamental problems of our era such as the "technologizing" of human beings and nature, the problem of the relevance of models of scientific-rational thought, the placing of the individual within mass society and the problem relative to the search for identity.
In four interconnected environments, Goethe House exhibits a selection made by Sieverding from the Weimar Archives, and an installation. About 150 objects were chosen from the poet's scientific materials, subdivided into four sections which represent the four "kingdoms of nature": minerals, plants, animals and mankind. The objects chosen (including botanical studies, animal and human craniums) are placed next to a large-format video projection which elaborates the theme of metamorphosis from both the technical and content viewpoints.
