Design firm: Jorgelina Tortorici & Asociados
Project name: Casa de Mar
Location: Pinamar, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dimensions: 320 square meters
In the coastal area of Pinamar, the holiday home designed by Jorgelina Tortorici Arquitectos establishes a measured dialogue between the landscape and the domestic space. The house comprises two volumes arranged in an “L” shaped layout along the south-eastern edge of the plot, defining a compact, screened façade to the street and opening out onto the internal garden through large glazed windows. The two volumes are clearly distinct in both function and form. The shorter volume, housing the living area, stretches out towards the garden and the swimming pool with a generous horizontal canopy—vaguely reminiscent of Mies van der Rohe’s work—suspended with apparent lightness over an intermediate space between interior and exterior. The longitudinal volume, by contrast, is more intimate and restrained, punctuated by a regular rhythm of openings that control the sleeping area’s privacy. A system of patios erodes the composition from within, bringing vegetation, natural light and ventilation into the domestic spaces. Natural, solid materials – from the smooth concrete of the structures, to the rough-hewn stone of the cladding and the wood of the furniture – accentuate the warm and welcoming character of the house, anchoring it firmly in its natural surroundings.
Casa de Mar is a holiday home that opens out onto the Argentine coastal landscape
Designed by Jorgelina Tortorici & Asociados, the house is organised around patios and a garden. An ingenious system of vertical screens alternates between providing openness and privacy.
