In Castelldefels, Catalonia, La Alicia is one of the latest works by Barcelona-based studio CRÜ, which has long focused on residential architecture of which, when tackling the existing building, peculiarities can be interpreted by optimising spatial quality and comfort.
An existing single-family house, distributed over two floors housing the living area on the ground level and the bedrooms upstairs, was disconnected from the surrounding garden due to a difference in height.
The studio aimed to establish a fluid and uninterrupted connection between the house and the landscape by creating a platform with a swimming pool, raised to the height of the house, acting as a transition zone and blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The curved volume of the interior staircase is taken as a distinctive feature of the composition: its geometry is repeated in the profiles of the platform, the swimming pool and the interior walls.

Materials with soft, sunny colours inspire the design both outside and inside: from the earthy plaster and exposed brickwork on the floors and cladding of the platform, to the minimal furniture in light wood and immaculate walls and ceilings in the interiors.
Particular attention is paid to environmental sustainability: the project focuses on an energy strategy of self-sufficiency and minimal environmental impact through eco-friendly materials and renewable energy.
