In the “post-atomic” landscape of an old disused quarry, a merciless trace of the anthropic transformation for industrial use that has eroded the soil and altered the geography of Mount Tangshan, once populated by uncontaminated forests, studio CCD has created an intervention to stitch up the still open wounds of the territory and come to terms with a past with a heavy legacy.
A resort on the slopes of a disused mining quarry in China
The building gives new life to the area amidst pre-natal reminiscences and mysterious atmospheres.

The luxury resort interprets the imperative to rebuild a possible dialogue between Man and Nature: with 115 rooms – each with a thermal pool – restaurants, swimming pools, spa and multifunctional spaces for meetings and events, the cyclopean complex covers an area of about 35,000 square meters on the slopes of the mountain, including spectacular views of the valley, glimpses of light and suggestive paths between the rocks that tell of the genius loci and weave a strong perceptive and fruitive link with the context.
The interiors, with their essential and elegant design, are characterized by a dusky and vaguely amniotic aura, among color palettes that vary from dark tones to intense greens to brighter ones, rough and delicate surfaces, ethereal shapes and organic and massive surfaces that wrap the spaces as in a “cocoon”, metaphorically used by the designers to mean the release of new life as from a mother's womb.
Natural materials such as stone, wood, bamboo give a robust and primordial character to the environment that welcomes visitors in a tour of immersive and “adventurous” experiences: from the lobby bar, with floor-to-ceiling windows jutting out over the valley and looming curved stone surfaces reminiscent of a canyon; to the sinuous rooms of the restaurant stretching out over the landscape with paths in the vegetation and plays of light that evoke a forest; to the intimate and humble spaces of the rooms, where guests enter a secret and highly evocative world among rough stone cladding and minimal wood furnishings.
A place with a slightly “sulphurous” and decidedly dreamlike character in which time seems to be slowed down, representing an attempt to rediscover an emotionality often repressed in the rational circuits of ordinary life.
