The building undergoing renovation, located in the town of Ponta Delgada in the Azores islands, stands out for its strong link with the preexisting Japanese style garden around which it develops.
The designers of the local studio box: arquitectos associados chose to have all the rooms of the new luxury resort facing the garden, in a direct exchange between the sophisticated materials of the interiors, the exuberant vegetation of the garden and the ocean.
Each room is allowed to open outwards through large French windows and at the same time to close with soft velvet curtains to ensure privacy and intimacy.
Material and atmospheric counterpoints characterize the rooms: the coverings of natural materials such as stone and wood, embellished with brass inlays, contrast with the soft textures and bright colours of the velvets, curtains and carpets, while the scattered natural light is contaminated with the artificial and cast light of bajour, floor lamps and beams of light.
In the bathrooms, large surfaces of veined grey stone are combined with brass taps and powder green sanitary fixtures in a balance of tones and dense, vibrant textures.
