Located in the middle of the forested area of Tlalpuente, in the South of Ciudad de México, the residential house by Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados-PPAA is an encounter between architecture and nature. The building is isolated in the wood, with no neighbors in the proximities, connected and open to the surrounding landscape. The architecture is built on an open plan over a basement on natural terrain, from which the entrance can be reached through a double concrete stair. The plan is built on a grid, a square whose axes and diagonals become the guidelines to arrange spaces, that are developed around a central double-height room. The concrete volume is a composition of solids and voids that create terraces over the wood and large skylights. The exterior is a dark surface interrupted by openings and wooden frames of doors and windows.
