Lucio, a luminous office in the centre of Lille

The workspaces designed by the duo Barbarito Bancel focus on transparency as the starting point for a new office complex.

“We chose the name ‘Lucio’ (from the Latin Lucius, luminous, ed.) a bit for fun but it seemed perfect to underline the importance of light and transparency in this work of ours.” The speaker is Ivana Barbarito, a young but already successful designer who, together with her partner Benjamin Bancel, designed the new office building in Lille: a glass volume that plays with the reflections of the sun and of the nearby buildings, combining with great originality aesthetic research and technological innovation.

The two French-Italian designers have attracted international attention since the beginning of their activity (their studio was established in Paris in 2010), after having been awarded the redesign of the historical Parisian ateliers of the maison Dior and the project for the new facade of the boutique in Miami, Florida.

Today Barbarito Bancel confirm their talent with this bright and technological office building: 1,500 square meters designed to rethink the work space. For the two main elevations (South-West and North-West), the designers opted for a completely glazed surface, protected by a second skin, also transparent, thanks to a system of 'brise soleil' in glass panes, strategically oriented vertically.

The secondary facades (South-East and North-East) reproduce the same geometric pattern, alternating glass and aluminum to preserve the game of reflections that gives character to the building.

The interior, lastly, plays on the maximum flexibility of the spaces, aiming at the absence of structural columns and concentrating the technical and distribution spaces in a single peripheral area, to promote an airy and modular layout.
