40 projects shortlisted for Mies van der Rohe Award 2019

BIG’s Lego headquarters, a new square for Tirana and a sublime ring-shaped holiday home are among competitor for this year’s European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.

The 40 projects were whittled down from a longlist of 383 by a jury comprising architects Dorte Mandrup, George Arbid, Kamiel Klaasse, María Langarita, Austrian cultural theorist Angelika Fitz, and publicists Ștefan Ghenciulescu and Frank McDonald.

The biennial Mies van der Rohe Award recognises the best new European architecture. 

This year's contenders, located in 17 European countries, are shortlisted across 12 categories: Culture, Education, Collective housing, Mixed use, Industrial, Single houses, Health, Infrastructure, Office, Social welfare, Sport & Leisure, and Urban Planning. 

Design and ceramics renew a shopping center

FMG Fabbrica Marmi and architect Paolo Gianfrancesco, of THG Arkitektar Studio, have designed the restyling of the third floor of Reykjavik's largest shopping center. Ceramic, the central element of the project, covers floors, walls and furniture with versatile solutions and distinctive character.
