Postcard Museum

Studio 02 Architectes designed a postcard museum in France on a slope not too far from the sea side, with green roofs and gardens for a seamless integration into the surrounding landscape.

Built to house an exceptional collection of post cards, the cultural center in Baud designed by Studio 02 Architectes tumbles down a slope in several stages, marrying the rugged topography of the terrain.

The building is divided in five volumes with identical proportions, and its aspect spreads in a fan-shape. This formal approach underscores the functional layout of the five spaces: the post card center housing the collection, the auditorium, the forum and the two open spaces of the multimedia library. Each volume is staggered at a 20-degrees angle in relation to the preceding one, thus creating varied exterior spaces such as belvederes, upper and lower public spaces, gardens, and so on, ensuring that they could all enjoy sunlight.

The design aims to give an impression of lightness, strengthened by white concrete on the facade. The building’s integration with the landscape is achieved by respecting the same maximum height as the neighboring constructions, and by the superimposed green roofs.
