Reykjavik Lights Hotel

T.ark and HAF designed Reykjavik Lights for Keahotels, drawing inspiration by the ever changing source of light in Iceland and how it reflects Icelanders in everyday life.

Team Haf was responsible for the concept, interior and visual design of the hotel.

The ever changing source of light in Iceland and how it reflects Icelanders in everyday life was the inspiration for the hotel. A key element in the concept is a unique visual calendar built on the Icelandic daylight and inspired by the old ancient Icelandic calendar that is called “Rímtafla”.

The visual calendar “Rímtafla” is divided up in 12 parts and distributed onto 12 corridors of the hotel. Every corridor represents one month of the year, and all rooms are linked to a specific day in the ancient Icelandic calendar creating an individual experience for all guests.

The rooms are decorated with unique color palette’s expressing the colors of the days and artworks inside the rooms demonstrate local traditions and experiences distinctive for each season, like the Northern lights or the Midnight sun. To be specific there were 105 custom made wallpapers produced for the hotel. Throughout the Hotel you can see various decorations and information about Icelandic culture, history and light.

Reykjavik Lights visual identity was developed in collaboration with graphic designer Sveinn Þorri Davíðsson. The typography is built on ancient Icelandic runes and the color scheme is an interpretation of the Icelandic light.
