The house, in line with the requests expressed by the client, and built on a small budget, arose from a free interpretation of the Mediterranean living tradition: a house with patio, terrace and facade that encounter one another and blend together in an architecture that forms a dialogue with the anarchic building fabric of Condofuri. The windows, squares that characterise the side facing the road, from the inside are perceived as viewing telescopes orientated towards significant elements in the landscape, while from the outside, they become glowing elements that transform the facade into a dynamic skin that changes during the course of the day. In the patio, the relationship between solid and void and between internal and external space is played out, while the terrace is an abstract plane that offers a priviledged view of the surrounding landscape.
The interiors, a double-height living area on the ground floor, with a cantilevered mezzanine and a bedroom area at first floor that faces onto the patio, follow a fluid arrangement.
In terms of construction, the materials and techniques used reformulate a “traditional way of doing”, cavity walls, a system of upside-down roof and windows in steel-coloured aluminium with semi-reflective glass. The white colour of the external render is a symbolic reference to the Mediterranen house and tends to absorb the variety of colours that appear in the built surroundings.
