Lazzarini Pickering: landscape design in the Grosseto area

An extensive but calibrated intervention in the grounds of a complex of villas exploits the potential of the Tuscan landscape

The landscape design for a 33 hectare site in the Grosseto area consisted of a range of different types of intervention around the wood: pavilions and raised platforms, water features, swimming pool, vegetable garden, stepped areas in the wood to protect the plants (in particular the wild orchids, mosses and lichen) pathways in the hills covered in rosemary that hark back to Etruscan times, a ‘natural’ amphitheatre for concerts.

The non-suspended routes were created with complex drainage and covered in ‘chips’ made from plants found in the surrounding territory: pine, cork, rosemary, ilex, and bay. Walking though the wood along the paths created you can breath the heady scent that emanates from the leaves of the varieties chosen. The design was carreid out in collaboration with landsape architect Paolo Pejrone.
