Weinraub and Gitai: architecture and film in Israel
Father and son. The former Bauhaus-trained
architect and protagonist of
New Building in Israel, the latter an
international film director and keen
observer of the Middle Eastern conflict.
Munio Weinraub and Amos Gitai
are the stars of an exhibition at the
Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich
(from 6 November to 8 February, 2009).
A comparison of their work produces
an intense look at the themes that
have characterised the Palestinian
and Israeli territories (homeland, exile,
frontiers) for the last 60 years. What
also emerges, however, is a creative
dialogue between two generations, that
of the Zionist settlement and that of
successive reflection on the complexity
of the problems in the Middle East.
