Less than a year after its opening, the ski jump facilities at Klingenthal, in the German region of Vogtland, has already won numerous awards. It was designed by Moritz May and Jörg and Axel Rostock of m2r architecture, who are based between London, Berlin and Kiev. The structure near the Czech border cost 1.8 million euro and was developed with the help of Arup Dusseldorf, using particularly lightweight state-of-the-art materials.

“Suspended” 35 metres above ground and sticking out nine metres into the air, the capsule that overhangs the jumping off point and the long staircase below have been made from a special aluminium alloy usually used in the aeronautical sector. The capsule has the double function of warming up the athletes before their jump and offering a panoramic platform with a breath taking view of the surrounding mountains. E.S.
