Douglas Coupland's Super City

Half way between personal recollection and theoretical exploration, the exhibition curated by Canadian writer Douglas Coupland, the prophet of “Generation X”, takes an unusual look at the contemporary city based on construction kits for children.

The title, “Super City”, is borrowed from a product by Ideal Toys made in 1967-68. Inside the box, children found the necessary components for building a “super city” of skyscrapers, pharmaceutical works and research labs. The curator’s theory? These games, more or less easy to use, have influenced our vision of the world since childhood and ended up conditioning our choices as adults. “Montreal itself,” explains Coupland, “was also the site of many 1960s related superprojects.” E.S.
