Herzog & de Meuron back to Tate
Five years after transforming an obsolete and abandoned power station into the London temple to contemporary art, Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron return to centre stage at the Tate Modern. For one, the Swiss architect team has recently been commissioned to complete the latest galleries and design the surrounding area, in addition an extensive exhibition dedicated to their work is on show in the giant turbine hall, describing their approach to architecture and design method.
From the Californian winery Dominus in the Napa Valley to the new stadium in Munich (see Domus 881/2005), the Prada store in Ayoama and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis (see Domus 881/2005), seventy projects take the public through 25 years of built projects spread around all corners of the world. Sketches, drawings, models, videos and samples of materials cover around forty panels to explain how an idea is conceived and developed. It is the first architecture exhibition for the British gallery, curated by Herzog & de Meuron themselves along with the Schaulager museum in Basle. E.S.
