Just Built! The Rural Studio of Samuel Mockbee
Wearing hard hats and bearing tools, the students who since 1993 have taken part in the courses at the Rural Studio at Auburn University (Alabama) have come into contact with the world of architecture in a way that is direct, without theoretical palliatives.
Under the guidance of Dennis K. Ruth and Samuel Mockbee, they have designed and more importantly built with their own hands, houses and community centres for ‘real’ clients made up of families from the county of Hale. Curated by the Architekturzentrum in Vienna, the exhibition “Just Built” tells the story. L.B.
