Alessandro Anselmi. Plan, surface, project

On the outskirts of Rome towards the sea, Fiumicino is a metaphor for poor land management. Set against this decay is the strong physical presence of a structure with a roof terrace extending into the air like a wing.

This is the new council building designed by Alessandro Anselmi (photo, right). The MAXXI in Rome has dedicated an exhibition to this and previous projects carried out over a 40-year career, and is curated by Margherita Guccione and designed by Anselmi himself. The architect from Rome has returned the honour with the promise of donating his archive to the museum. L.B.
