Evaluating over 800 schemes submitted (all strictly anonymously), the competition jury have chosen the winner but cannot identify the architect responsible.

What might seem the architect’s worst nightmare became reality in Ireland a number of days ago in the competition for the design of the tower for U2. The result? The winner has instead been declared as the architects who came second place, Dublin practice Felim and Burdon Dunne Architects, with Craig Henry Architects (a choice which has also caused some talk since it is the practice belonging to the brother-in-law of U2’s Paul McGuinness).

As if it wasn’t enough to have the name of one of the world’s most famous rock bands to publicise the competition, now this.

So a bit like in Cinderella when at the stroke of twelve she disappears leaving only a glass slipper, the search is now on for the mysterious architects. Not so much for the well deserved award and commission, but to represent them in the exhibition that will be showing around a hundred of the entries.
