Presentation of the design of the 7 WTC by SOM
Building developer Larry Silverstein made public last week drawings by David Childs (of Skidmore Owings and Merrill) for building 7 of the World Trade Center which collapsed after the hijack on 11 September. A glass and steel tower, 228 metres high which will be completed by the end of 2005.
The project, with a 700 million dollar budget covers 148 000 square metres of floor area divided in 42 storeys of office space, as well as additional floors underground for the transformation station. Attention has been centred around the safety of the building which will have walls in reinforced concrete, fireproof staircases wider than the minimum required by present law and double the amount of fireproof material requested.
