Scala in Milan: scandal on state of the building site

The controversy around the conservation work at the Scala has turned bitter after shots were seen in television of the demolitions underway in the theatre of Piermarini. According to Milly Moratti “even some of Piermarini’s seventeenth century columns seem to be missing”, and the building site appears to be “rough and managed with no regard for the immense cultural heritage it contains”.

An idea has been formulated that an international competition should be set for designs for conserving the Scale, since at the moment it seems that the Sovrintendenza doesn’t seem to know what is being taken away from the site and there are no plans for keeping elements as museum pieces.

The Milan centre left, who for some time has been in heavy conflict with the centre right of Palazzo Marino, regarding the possibility to visit the Scala building site (permission up until now has been denied by vice mayor De Corato) also emphasised that they, denying secret scrutiny in council meetings, regarding the censorship of De Corato referred ti his “undemocratic and non transparent” behaviour, and pushing therefore the clear vote for the opposition saying they have “violated every statute and law”.

The biggest paradox is that the internet site for the project, for which the Comune spent 90 000 euro, you cannot see what 10 million Italians saw on TV on Tuesday evening.
