The formation of multi-disciplinary groups, in such a way as to integrate different kinds of knowledge in the field of architecture, together with research into an increasingly rational use of energy in buildings. These two elements form the basis of the work of Mario Cucinella who in 1992, after five years spent in Renzo Piano’s Building Workshop, opened his own practice in Paris, followed in 1999 by an office in Bologna.
The exhibition due to open in Florence at the Spazio di Santa Verdiana (running until 13 December) shows work from the early years, mainly research and competitions. Early designs show already an attention to the recurring themes of sustainability, technology, nature and energy conservation. The title of the exhibition is intended also in this sense, obtaining the maximum with the minimum use of energy and natural resources. According to Cucinella, something which is a categorical imperative and no longer just a possible alternative.
