USA Architects: Millennium Dome is ‘the biggest eyesore in the world’

Labelled as the biggest eyesore in the world, the Millennium Dome heads the ‘top ten’ ugliest buildings on the planet. At least according to the US monthly Forbes, who asked the opinion of 15 leading architects and businessmen. “It’s hard not to hate a building which cost 750 million pounds and has such a pretentious name”, states the magazine.

Defending Richard Rogers design is the highest authority in the UK when it comes to architecture, the Royal Institute of British Architects: “I don’t understand how architects can look at the building and say it is ugly. It is an elegant structure and a brilliant piece of engineering”, declared RIBA president George Ferguson.

Following on in the listing, two American buildings, the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland designed by I.M. Pei, and in third place, the Experience Music Project in Seattle by Canadian Frank Gehry.
