Projects by Mendelsohn at the Casa del Mantegna

Mantova is the only stop off in Italy for a European exhibition curated by Regina Stephan which is dedicated to Erich Mendelsohn and his work. Coming from Stuttgart, the exhibition brings to the Casa del Mantegna (until 30 June) around forty models together with original drawings and photographic images.

A master of German expressionism and an intellectual of extraordinary independence and integrity, Mendelsohn was a cosmopolitan designer by both vocation and necessity. In his career he never stopped teaching, writing, drawing and building, in Germany, Poland, Russia and Norway, before moving to Britain in 1933 with the rise of the Nazis, Palestine at the dawn of the state of Israel and then subsequently the US where he died in 1953.
