An interesting experiment in contamination between architecture and cinema is taking place this year in Como. The Lombardy city was the cradle of the Rationalist architecture movement from the twenties to the forties which had in Giuseppe Terragni – the centenary of whose birth is in 2004 – its leading voice and greatest exponent. During these events, the Como architecture of Terragni becomes the backdrop for a series of cinema projections which touch on themes of urban landscape. The films are accompanied by original soundtracks, or where these do not exist, the intervention of a something new. The event also sees the active participation of two international scholars of the architecture of Terragni, one who deals with the historical aspect and the other looking at language-compostition: Kenneth Frampton and Peter Eisenman. The Incontri Internazionali di Architettura are organised by the Centro Studi Giuseppe Terragni in Como, with the support of the Assessorato alla Cultura dell’Amministrazione Provinciale di Como, the Collegio delle Imprese Edili the Provincia di Como, and with the help of the Comando Provinciale della Guardia di Finanza, which is based in the ex Casa del Fascio.
