Milan designer Giacomo Moor has created a limited-edition furniture system for Post Design featuring that combines strictly geometric lines with warm walnut.

Just presented at the Post Design Gallery by Milanese designer-craftsman Giacomo Moor, the Metropolis collection was inspired by an open comparison with the Attraverso series, designed a year ago for the Via Moscova gallery.

In the first collection, large wooden beams pass through the furniture body in an explicit reference to architecture; now, although wood remains central to this new project, it is employed to convey lightness without distorting its sign.

This system comprises seven pieces: small table, desk, cupboard, consol table, bookcase and horizontal and vertical wall units. Black-lacquered box-iron frames provide a structure for walnut storage units. Disguised by the absence of handles, the unit function is not immediately declared although small round holes painted black do suggest how they open.

“The challenge – explains Moor –“was to start from the collection designed last year and hollow it out.” The metal frames remain and seem to delineate objects in space, defining the masses. “The design issue in this year’s collection was the iron resistance – continues the designer – we took the material to its limits, working on 12 cm square sections, or 15 cm for the larger pieces.” The added value of this design, which falls midway between mass production and limited edition, and indeed the design cipher of its designer-carpenter consist in the craftsman’s attention to detail.
