Located in Amsterdam, the Harbour Club is a multifunctional building that is part of a larger redevelopment project in the eastern district of Cruquiuseiland. LEVS architecten has given shape to a complex made up of new volumes and existing buildings, with restaurants, mixed-use areas and housing. An architecture that can be enjoyed by residents and the city itself.
In Amsterdam, disused silos become a new social centre
Designed by LEVS architecten for the Cruquiuseiland district, the Harbour Club is made up of new volumes and old buildings: an architecture for socialising and an example of sustainable and equitable urban development.

The silos, the circular white structures on the roof – once wine warehouses for the Dutch market – have become villas, symbols of the industrial district now converted into a residential area. The new homes are distributed over three floors and have panoramic views, insulated emphasizing the same method used for the local houseboats.
The building supporting the silos is divided into 81 flats and is suspended on a series of pillars, enveloping the central, free-standing block where the club is located, which is acoustically isolated to perfection – flats and club have been cleverly divided and provided with two separate entrances.
An old building from 1901 has been redeveloped, embraced by the new architecture and enhanced by a green roof that can retain water, absorb heat and provide sound insulation for residents. Harbour Club is an interesting proposal to contemporary issues – the need for affordable housing, redevelopment of historic buildings, environmental sustainability – for a more equitable and open urban development.
